Federico Neresini (Ph.D. Sociology and Social Research, Trento 1992) teaches Science, Technology and Society and Sociology of Innovation at the University of Padua (Italy).
He has been co-founder of STS-Italia (The Italian Society for Social Studies of Science and Technology) and of Observa – Science in Society (www.observa.it). He is member of the scientific board of the reviews “Rassegna Italiana di Sociologia” and “Tecnoscienza”.
Awarded in 1992 by the Lelli Prize as the best Sociology Italian Ph.d. dissertation, his main research interests are in the area of the sociology of science, focusing in particular on construction processes of scientific knowledge, public communication of science and social representations of science. His research activities has been focused on biotechnology issues, with specific attention to in vitro fertilisation and cloning, and on nanotechnology. Recently he also addressed to the relationship between big-data and scientific research activities, as well as the implications for the social sciences of the availability of large amounts of data through the web.
He published several articles in international journals – such as Nature, Science, Public Understanding of Science, Science Communication, Nanotechnology Perceptions and New Genetics and Society – and some books (recently “Verso il nano-mondo che verrà – Toward the coming nano-world”, il Mulino, 2011).
At CIGA, Federico is the Head of the Observatory on nanotechnology perception and representation in Italy and he is the Principal Investigator of the Synenergene team at the University of Padova.
